Upper Robotics Competition Rules

-Level 1-

Score as many points in the allotted time as possible by using the robot to push various colored balls into a goal.

Each round will last a total of 2 minutes, with two competitors participating simultaneously on the field. When time begins, the robots will proceed autonomously towards a red ball on their side of the field and attempt to push the ball into their goal using prewritten code. If successful, this ball’s point value is added to the team’s score. If not, no points are added to the team’s score and players may not attempt to push the red ball into the goal for the rest of the round.

After the autonomous portion of their program concludes, teams use interactive control to move their robot for the remainder of the allotted time.

Level 1 Competition (Robo Ball Rules)

Control the robot to pop other players’ balloons and protect your own. Players win by earning the highest score.

The match begins with a 15-second autonomous period where robots move from the center of the field to their respective starting areas. Teams earn a bonus if their robot successfully stops in their starting area.

Players use interactive control to move their robots for the remainder of the match. When time begins, teams will attempt to pop their opponents’ balloons using the robot-mounted pins while attempting to protect their own balloon from being popped.

After 1 minute, the field of play will shrink.  After 2 minutes, if more than one balloon remains, players proceed to the “Endgame Square” in the center of the arena. The team with the most points scored during the match wins.

Program the robot to navigate the course from Start to Finish while reaching objective markers along the way.

Players use a prewritten program to control their robots. When time begins, teams will attempt to navigate their robot from Start to Finish. Each objective marker subtracts time from the team’s completion time. Finishing within the designated area will stop the clock.

Teams receive three attempts at the course. Only the fastest time of these attempts will be considered for placement purposes.

Level 1 Competition (Robo Derby Rules)

Program the robot to dance in rhythm to a song of the team’s choice while collecting the objective markers on the dance floor.

Prior to competition, teams will prepare a 90 second program that makes their robots dance in rhythm with a song of their choice.

When time begins, the robot will proceed to execute its dance program, showcasing a variety of preprogrammed dance moves. While the robot is in motion, teams attempt to run over objective markers with their robots to accrue additional points.
